Nicole Kidman nominated for her first Emmy Award
The nominations for the 64th Primetime Emmy Awards were announced today with Nicole Kidman receiving a nod for best actress in a miniseries or movie. Kidman was nominated alongside Clive Owen, her co-star in Hemingway and Gellhorn, the HBO miniseries about the turbulent relationship between Ernest Hemingway and journalist, Martha Gellhorn, which received a total of 15 nods.
Although the Australian star has been nominated for more than 50 industry awards over her career – including one Oscar and three Golden Globes – this is her first Emmy nomination. Fellow Australian, Judy Davis, received a nomination for best supporting actress in a miniseries or movie for her role in the BBC production Page Eight.
However, drama series Mad Men was the standout of the day. Leading the categories with 17 bids, it has the potential to set the record for the most-honoured drama in television history. The series, which is tied with The West Wing, LA Law and Hill St Blues for the most wins, just received its fifth nomination in the category.
“It’s insane. I can’t believe it,” said the show’s creator Matt Weiner.
Other front runners were British period drama Downton Abbey with 16 nods, miniseries Hatfields and McCoys with 16 and sitcom Modern Family” with 14.
The awards, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, will air live on September 23 from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles.
